Thousand Gifts
John Milton wrote: “Gratitude bestows reverence, allowing us to encounter everyday epiphanies, those transcendent moments of awe that change forever how we experience life and the world.”
So here will be my list of a thousand gifts He has given me. The obvious ones are easy and I’m going to save them for a day when maybe I’m having a hard time seeing the smaller gifts. It occurs to me that I will probably look back and realize how many gifts I’ve left unwrapped from Him over the years. I hope that I will be able to look back at today as the beginning of an amazing journey. With His help, I pray I will become more aware of the many gifts He gives me and that I will take the time to unwrap and savor each one as they come.
So here goes:
1. Being able to spend real time with my children without distractions.
2. Time spent with my son reading the Bible and discussing God’s Word. Today we read the Sermon on the Mount.
3. A warm cup of coffee on a cold morning.
4. Electricity (we didn’t have it today for several hours and boy was I thankful when it came back on!).
5. The freedoms living in America provides us on a daily basis.
6. The Christian music station I found a few months ago. It has made a big impact on my life.
7. A first-thing-in-the-morning hug from a boy who is getting way too big way too fast. But still tells his mom “I Love You” with amazing regularity.
8. The joyful purring of a happy and fat cat.
9. The anticipation of a night alone with my husband… even after 11 years of marriage.
10. Fall-kissed leaves tumbling out of a tree on a warm Fall day. It always feels like being rained on by beauty to me.
